What is
Contact Improvisation

Contact improvisation is a dance form where spontaneous movement is generated from the physical contact and sharing of weight between people. It can be expressed as a moving meditation, a flight into the unknown, or even playful roughhousing.

Contact improvisation encourages the development of a creative mind, engenders spontaneity, and expands one’s physical abilities.

What Students Say

I really loved David’s class—the attention and care he gave to each of us was so special. I still remember all the lifts and tumbles we practiced—the kind of acrobatics CI I enjoy the most—it was so much fun! And his guidance made me confident it was safe. Building acrobatics practice feels so important because it helps me trust my body in any kind of dance, knowing I’m well prepared.

I recall leaving David's workshop feeling giddy and fearless! His mindful teaching and playful exercises instilled in me a deeper connection to the environment in which I move. He is a deep thinker and his passion for the international contact community speaks volumes about his commitment to the art form.

It was such a wonderful workshop by David. We are thankful to him for sharing his amazing dance and established teaching skills, which is one of the best in East Asia, I would say. It was a great opportunity for me to acknowledge that we have good teachers of contact improvisation in our region, not necessarily from the Western world.
